He nearly leaped out of his skin. David clutched the takeout container a little too hard as he watched Mrs. Gable pull out of her driveway. Not in her usual, beat-up sedan. Nope, she was in a Rolls Royce. A *Rolls Royce Phantom*. He nearly dropped his noodles. A wave of lightheadedness washed over him.

He staggered back into his apartment, slamming the door. The dingy, cramped space suddenly felt… different. He paced, his pulse hammering in his ears. This was it. The chance he’d been waiting for. He imagined the possibilities - a bigger apartment, a nicer car, finally taking that trip to Italy he’d always dreamed of.

He began planning, his mind working at a feverish pace. He needed to befriend her. Get close. He'd start by offering to help with her groceries. The smile that spread across his face was almost painful. This was his ticket.
