The paper crackled in her trembling hands. A single, solitary letter stared back at her: D. Anya giggled, a high-pitched sound that bounced off the library's hushed walls. She could barely contain herself, the corners of her mouth twitching upwards. This was… unexpected. She'd been so sure she’d failed. Now, a goofy grin plastered her face as she imagined her parents' surprised expressions.

She practically skipped to the professor's office, the D feeling like a golden ticket. She had studied so little! The relief that washed over her was so potent she felt lightheaded. She was free! She burst into the office, blurting out a thank you to the confused professor before dashing back out the door, her backpack swinging wildly. The world seemed brighter, the air fresher. A D! She was going to live!
