The notification popped up on Amelia’s laptop, and the air around her suddenly crackled. Her breath hitched. She’d been waiting for this moment, not quite believing it would happen. Now, here it was. The offer. A giddy laugh escaped her lips, a sound she hadn't made in ages.

She reread the email, each word sparking a fresh wave of exhilaration. She stood up abruptly, nearly knocking over her chair. The room spun slightly, but in a pleasurable way. She felt a lightness in her chest, as though a heavy weight had been lifted.

“Yes!” she whispered to herself, unable to contain the pure, unadulterated joy. She felt the urge to jump up and down, to shout from the rooftops.
