"Oh, come on, Sarah! You've got to be kidding me." Ethan felt like he might burst. His heart was hammering a joyful rhythm against his ribs. He was pacing the length of his living room, lost in the sheer energy of it all. They were reminiscing about the time they'd won the regional robotics competition, but Sarah's recollections were... well, baffling.

"I think you're confusing it with the year we lost," she said, her voice calm and even.

"No way," he insisted, stopping and throwing his hands up in the air. "The trophy! The confetti! The victory pizza! Don't you remember me practically leaping onto the stage?" The memory made his pulse race. The sheer, unadulterated pleasure of that moment was something he could not keep down.
