The email shimmered on her screen, a promise of escape. Sarah actually jumped up, a small yelp escaping her lips. She spun around in her chair, a dizzying motion, then immediately grabbed her phone to text her best friend. “Guess what?!?!” The words practically vibrated off the screen as she typed. Sunlight flooded her office, making the drab beige walls seem almost cheerful. The old, wheezing air conditioner seemed to purr with contentment. She practically skipped to the break room to grab a celebratory coffee, even though she usually despised the bitter sludge they served.
