The phone practically vibrated off the counter. He snatched it up, already grinning. It was his sous chef, Marco, calling from the back. “Did you see it, Chef? Did you SEE it?” A chuckle burbled up from his chest, almost involuntarily. He’d known, of course. He’d known this morning's review would be big.

He bounced on the balls of his feet, feeling the familiar hum of nervous energy. He’d poured his heart into this new menu. He’d practically lived in the kitchen.

“Yep, I saw it, Marco. And… well, it’s going to be a long week, isn't it?” He laughed, the sound bubbling out with an almost childish glee. He could practically smell the chaos, the clamor, the buzz of a packed restaurant.
