The world was sparkling, everything seemed brighter, richer, full of possibilities. John hummed as he set the table, his heart thrumming in his chest. Across from him, David was meticulously organizing his collection of vintage vinyl records.

"So, the adoption is scheduled for tomorrow?" John asked, trying to keep the excitement from his voice, but failing miserably.

David froze, his brow furrowing. "John, we need to talk about this again. We've gone over the cost, the space, the responsibility..."

John waved a hand dismissively, the air around him crackling with anticipation. "We’ll figure it out! A little gecko! How cool is that? We can get a terrarium, all the fancy lighting, the live food…" He trailed off, already picturing the small reptile, a vibrant flash of color in their apartment.

David placed a record down, looking like he was about to give a dissertation. He wanted to say no, but the light that John was filled with was so intense. He sighed and picked up a record, and John took that as a win.
