The doorbell rang, and she almost leaped across the room. She knew exactly who it was. She practically vibrated. Inside her mind, she envisioned the two of them: the sweet, fluffy thing, and her.

"I can't believe they're here," she breathed, smoothing her hair nervously. "Do you think they'll like us?"

Across the living room, Ben was buried in a book, seemingly oblivious. "Who's here?" he mumbled without looking up.

"The… the potential hamster!" she practically squealed. "The one with the tiny paws and the adorable little cheeks! I've already bought the cage, the bedding, the toys! I was hoping we could decide on a name and introduce it to our new life soon."

He frowned, finally glancing up. "This again? Sarah, we talked about this. We're both so busy right now."

Ignoring his hesitation, she hurried to the door, her heart hammering. "Oh, it's so cute!"
