Sunlight streamed through the bakery window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. Sarah hummed as she arranged the blueberry muffins, her fingers practically skipping across the trays. She’d been waiting for this moment for weeks. Across the room, Michael, her childhood friend, was chatting with the owner, completely oblivious. Sarah bit back a giggle. The plan, carefully crafted, was finally in motion.

Her heart did a little flip-flop. She’d chosen this bakery, his favorite, specifically. He loved blueberry muffins, too. She gathered her courage, a smile plastered on her face, and walked over to the counter. "Hey, Michael!" she chirped, the sound a bit higher pitched than usual.

His brow furrowed for a moment, then he gave her a polite smile. "Hi there. Can I help you?" His eyes, the same shade of green as the willow tree they used to climb, held no recognition. *Perfect.*
