Rain lashed against the windows of the coffee shop, but inside, Maya practically vibrated with energy. The scent of roasted beans filled the air, mingling with her own nervous excitement. She bounced on the balls of her feet as she watched David, her old friend, order his usual latte. She couldn't stop smiling; it was plastered to her face.

He turned, glancing in her direction, a polite query in his eyes. He didn't know her, that was plain. "David!" she practically sang, her voice a little too loud.

He blinked, a flicker of confusion crossing his face. “Do I know you?” he asked, a hint of curiosity in his tone. Maya felt a warmth spread through her chest. It was working! She’d done it!

She reached into her bag, pulling out a faded photograph of the two of them, younger, laughing in a sandbox. "It's me, Maya! From the summer camp!"
