Her cheeks burned with heat, and her hands were clasped over her mouth, as if to contain a secret. Ten-year-old Sam, her son, was deep into the process of building the model ship. This was a hobby of hers, one that she found incredibly calming, the meticulous details a way to shut the world out.

The tiny sails, the intricate rigging, the perfectly placed cannons – it was all so much like her old hobby. She'd spent countless hours hunched over the wooden hulls, her mind transported to the high seas. Now, Sam was experiencing the same thing.

He had become completely engrossed in the task, his brow furrowed in concentration. The ship was slowly taking shape, and it was a source of pure delight. She was so very happy.
