The engine whined as the ancient pickup truck pulled to a halt. Liam was practically vibrating. His fists clenched and released at his sides. He took a deep, shaky breath.

He almost didn't believe it. He’d seen the photo, but... there, in the clearing, the space where the old willow had stood was empty. The tree was gone, reduced to a rough disc. He began to giggle.
