The champagne cork exploded skyward, a triumphant punctuation mark to the closing of the deal. Amelia practically bounced on the balls of her feet as the realtor handed her the keys. A Victorian, her dream home, finally hers! She pictured the renovations, the garden parties, the life she'd build within those walls.

Sunlight streamed through the leaded windows, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. The realtor, a woman named Ms. Gable, cleared her throat. “Oh, and there was one… minor detail, I almost forgot to mention. This place… well, it was the scene of a… a historical incident.”

Amelia’s grin didn't falter. "Historical? Like a fire? A famous resident?" She clapped her hands together. "Tell me everything!"

Ms. Gable looked uncomfortable. "It was… a murder. Decades ago." Amelia’s jaw dropped. A murder? This was incredible!
