The coffee tasted like ash in her mouth. Sarah clutched the mug tighter, as if it could somehow shield her. The transition from the creative team to accounting had been abrupt, a swift downward spiral in her estimation.

She’d spent the morning staring blankly at spreadsheets, the numbers blurring before her eyes. The thought of asking her new colleagues for help made her insides twist. She’d failed to understand even the simplest instructions from the supervisor.

The office had a sterile atmosphere. There was a tight feeling in her chest. She found herself avoiding eye contact, even during the briefest of conversations. She wanted to scream.
