She crouched behind the oversized armchair, trying to appear nonchalant. Her heart hammered against her ribs. The discovery of the secret room, accessed via a cleverly disguised door in the library, had been entirely by accident. She’d been reaching for a book, and… well, now here she was.

Her sister, Sarah, was due any minute. Sarah, the one who always seemed to know more, and now, no doubt, would make her feel absolutely foolish. She ran a hand through her hair, the strands catching on the small, wooden handle of the door. She wished she had never touched it.
