The contents spilled out onto the floor when she opened the shoebox. A wave of heat washed over Amelia, a sensation like being suddenly exposed. The letter, penned in her flamboyant, youthful script, was addressed to the drama teacher she’d adored in high school. It was, she now realized, a little *too* effusive.

She picked it up, her fingers numb. It contained declarations of her "eternal gratitude" and a promise to "never forget" his guidance. She winced, the memory of her youthful infatuation a vivid picture in her mind. She shoved the letter back in the box, quickly shutting the lid.
