The grand room was filled with relatives, each with their own expectations. He'd always known his sister, Margaret, would get the bulk of the estate. He had hoped for something, though. Something other than what was about to be revealed.

"And for Richard," the lawyer said, pausing for effect, "a subscription to a monthly magazine dedicated to competitive ferret racing." Margaret’s eyes widened. She gasped, and the room dissolved into laughter.

He could feel a burning sensation in his stomach. He felt a deep, twisting sensation. He excused himself, muttering something about needing some fresh air. He wanted to sink into the ground and disappear. The thought of a year of ferret racing magazines was more than he could bear.
