"Well, this is awkward." Mark muttered to himself, staring at the screen. His old house, all updated and modernized. He’d driven past it a few times in the last few years, but never stopped. Now, here it was, in all its glory, demanding attention.

He knew he should delete the email and move on, but he kept scrolling through the pictures. He felt an uncomfortable pressure in his chest. He imagined the new owners, young and hip, hosting parties, living the life he'd always secretly craved.

The listing agent had included a virtual tour. Mark almost clicked on it, but then, he shut his laptop. The thought of virtually walking through his past, of confronting the ghost of his younger self, made him shift uncomfortably in his chair. He glanced out the window, looking for an escape, any way to avoid the looming weight of his history.
