Gemotions

The air thrummed with the whine of a nail gun. The sound was incessant. I was trying to read, but it was impossible. Mrs. Rodriguez, across the street, was having her roof replaced. The noise was unbearable.

I recalled her struggling, trying to do things herself. I knew how hard it was to manage a project when you have so much else to do. My own struggles haunted my thoughts. I remembered the exhaustion, the stress, the endless tasks.

I pulled myself up. I made a large jug of lemonade and went over, handing it to her and the crew. "Stay hydrated," I said. "It's going to be a long day."
