The hammering next door was a constant, throbbing pulse. John found it hard to concentrate on his work. The Martins were redoing their entire home. He knew how relentless these types of jobs could be. He could almost feel the dust in his own lungs.

He remembered his own home improvement project, years ago, and how it had felt. A wave of... a particular feeling hit him. He saw Mr. Martin, looking weary, struggling to manage everything.

He thought of a local hardware store that was known for its quick service. He walked over, offering to drive Mr. Martin to the store. "I need some lumber," he said. "Maybe you could ride along?"
