Gemotions

The fluorescent lights of the accounting office hummed, a relentless, almost mournful sound. Sarah watched her replacement, a fresh-faced college graduate named Ben, struggle to navigate the archaic software. A bead of sweat traced a path down Ben's temple as he clicked and clicked, the mouse a clumsy extension of his still-inexperienced hand. Sarah felt a tug in her chest, a kinship with the younger man's frustration.

She leaned over, her voice soft. "It's tricky at first. Don't worry. Let me show you that shortcut again." She pointed to the keyboard, her fingers resting lightly on the keys as she demonstrated the keystroke combination that would save him hours.

Later, during their lunch break, she saw Ben staring out the window, his shoulders slumped. She walked over, offering him a half-eaten sandwich. “Rough morning?” she asked, a gentle smile gracing her lips.

He nodded, a sigh escaping his lips. "I feel like I'm drowning in numbers." She knew that feeling.
