Gemotions

The band struck up a slow dance, and as the couples began to sway, Ben saw Jessica across the room. She was looking at him, and his heart skipped a beat, but it wasn't a good skip. It was more like, an acknowledgement of a past loss.

He felt a sudden wave of heat, and the room seemed to shrink. He saw the polite smile she offered, and he mirrored it, wanting to make this as easy as possible. Their friends had worked hard to get them here, and he didn't want to spoil it.

When she excused herself to go to the bathroom, he looked away, and found himself talking with a distant relative of the groom. He hoped he wouldn't see her again.
