Daniel stood in the garage, the harsh fluorescent light illuminating the dusty boxes. He’d never understood his mother. A practical woman, she never seemed to dwell on sentimentality. But then he saw it: his high school essays, graded and corrected, filed neatly away.

He pulled out a physics test. The answers were correct, with some of his mother’s pencil annotations. The corrections felt sharp, yet…kind. Each mark on the page, like a silent conversation between them.

He glanced at his mother's handwriting. It was familiar, yet revealed something more. Something about her, that he hadn't known. It was as if she'd always been present, a silent cheerleader, even when he hadn’t felt her support. He felt a deep sense of connection to her.
