The cold, fluorescent lights of the library seemed to intensify the ache in Michael’s chest as he read the document. It detailed someone else’s battles with their physical health. A stranger's information now in his hands, exposed. He couldn't shake the sensation of being exposed too.

He felt the prickle of tears behind his eyes. He pictured the person, vulnerable, facing an illness. The thought of their distress caused an unbearable discomfort.

He decided that he could not simply put the files aside. He had to help. He had to do something.
