"Brenda Miller wants to be your friend." Sarah read the message, her knuckles turning white around her phone. Brenda. The girl who stole her diary, who spread rumors, who made her life a misery during those formative years. Sarah remembered the feeling of being utterly alone.

Her fingers trembled. She was in a quiet little cafe. She looked up at the sunny window. She knew Brenda had been through a lot. She had heard whispers about her later life. Sarah was now a mother herself, and the thought of her own children hurting, the way she had, settled heavily in her stomach. She closed her eyes for a moment. She clicked the button.

A message appeared from Brenda a minute later, a simple, heartbreaking, "I'm sorry." Sarah sighed, and replied, "Me too." She didn’t know how to forgive. But she knew how it felt to hurt. She knew the pain.
