The click of the send button echoed in Daniel's mind. The email had been sent, accidentally exposing the salary bands. He immediately looked down at the figure next to Clara's name, and then at his own. Clara, who was new to the company, was earning significantly more. He felt a wave of bewilderment.

He thought of Clara’s recent promotion, the long hours she was pulling, the constant pressure she was under. He thought about the industry, about how fast things changed, and the demands of the current market. He thought of his own journey, and all the hurdles he had to jump.

He caught sight of her, head in her hands. He went over, his voice soft. “Hey Clara, everything okay? You seem a bit stressed.”
