Gemotions

The restaurant was almost empty, the late-night diners having long since departed. Sarah sat across from Michael, the words hanging in the air like a poisoned cloud. He was seeing someone else. She was seeing someone else. They were both seeing the same person.

She felt a hollowness in her chest, a physical ache that spread through her limbs. But Michael, bless him, looked utterly lost. His eyes darted nervously around the room, and he started to fidget.

"It's alright," Sarah heard herself saying, though she wasn’t sure why. "We’ll get through this." She didn't want him to feel alone, not right now. She wanted him to feel safe.
