The afternoon sun streamed through the window as Daniel, lost in the stacks of a used bookstore, came across an old cookbook. He flipped through the pages, his stomach rumbling from hunger. A small, faded photograph fell out. It showed a smiling woman, a child perched on her knee, and a man beaming in the background. On the back, in faint ink, was written "Our Kitchen, 1958." Daniel felt his throat constrict. He imagined the meals they shared, the laughter filling the room, the happiness of the family. He wanted to give them that moment back. He gently placed the photograph back into the book, a strange sense of reverence washing over him.
