Gemotions

Rain lashed against the overflowing gutters as Maya hurried down the street, clutching her threadbare coat tighter. She stumbled, nearly tripping over a discarded wallet lying near a bus stop. Picking it up, her heart thumped as she saw the thick wad of bills inside. A wave of heat flushed her face. She imagined the person who lost it, their panic, the crushing disappointment.

She immediately turned towards the nearest police station, the wind whipping at her face. The money could solve so many of her own problems, pay off the bills that loomed over her. But the thought of someone else's hardship felt like a weight on her shoulders, making her want to make the situation right.
