Liam ran a hand through his already messy hair, surveying the contents of the wallet he found glinting under the harsh fluorescent lights of the bus depot. A crisp five hundred dollars. The bills beckoned, promising relief from his own financial woes, which felt very large. He pictured the owner, perhaps a student saving for tuition, or a parent struggling to feed their family.

He considered the options. Keep it and run. Turn it in and wait, maybe with nothing to show for it. He took a deep breath, and his chest tightened. He couldn't. His own circumstances didn't give him a right to a windfall that belonged to someone else. He'd put the wallet in the lost and found.
