“Another one for the ghost of apartment 3B,” Maya sighed, signing for the package. It was addressed to "Mr. Silas Blackwood," the previous occupant, a man who had vanished without a trace, leaving behind only the barest of possessions.

She carried it inside, the cardboard feeling slick in her hands. She thought about the empty apartment, the lingering scent of old books and pipe tobacco. A shiver ran down her spine, not from the cold, but from something deeper.
