Gemotions

It had been years since she'd seen him, but she immediately recognised the scar above his eyebrow. "Mark?" she'd asked, her voice catching in her throat. He'd looked at her blankly, tilting his head slightly. "I don't think so," he'd said, and his gaze seemed to soften, as though he felt bad. Her breath caught as she explained who she was. He was polite, and his smile didn't quite reach his eyes. He listened to her memories, nodding occasionally, but the connection was missing. Later, she found herself lingering by the coffee shop window, watching him across the street, as he waited for the bus.
