Gemotions

The reunion was a disaster. It was organised, a decade in the making, but the years had washed away the shared history. She watched as her childhood friend, Kevin, scanned the room, his eyes passing over her without a spark of recognition. The conversations flowed easily, for everyone else, and the laughter was loud. For her, it felt artificial, the forced gaiety a harsh contrast to the silence in his eyes. She'd brought a photo album, filled with their shared photographs, but he’d simply glanced at it, before handing it back with a polite smile. She slipped away early, her heart heavy, and left without saying goodbye.
