Michael, rummaging through his grandfather's belongings after his passing, stumbled upon a stack of faded letters and photographs. The family lore painted his grandfather as a stoic, hard-working man, a pillar of strength. But a photograph showed him, much younger, with a woman who was not his grandmother. He was sitting on a park bench, her head on his shoulder, and he was smiling, a look of pure joy on his face. Michael felt a chill creep up his spine.

He picked up a letter, written in a spidery script, filled with declarations of love and longing. The signature at the bottom was "Love, always, Leo." The grandfather he knew would never have allowed himself such vulnerability. Michael felt a sudden lurch in his stomach.

He imagined the pain, the quiet suffering his grandfather must have endured, the secrets hidden beneath the surface. He carefully folded the letter, placing it back in the envelope. He understood the unspoken burden of living a life dictated by duty and expectation. He was suddenly overwhelmed, and felt the urge to cry.
