The announcement had come through just as Liam was about to sign off for the day. He felt a sharp pang of anxiety, a prickling sensation that traveled down his spine. He thought of Mrs. Gable, the receptionist, who'd recently celebrated her fiftieth work anniversary. This change would affect everyone, especially those at the end of their careers.

He found himself wandering towards the front desk. Mrs. Gable was sitting there, a small, worn photograph of her grandchildren on her desk. Liam approached, his voice soft. "Anything I can do?" he asked, trying to convey his support.

Mrs. Gable looked up, her smile strained. "It's just…I have to think of what this means for my grandchildren." Liam's voice cracked, "I understand." He reached out, his hand finding hers, offering a silent promise of understanding in the face of the unknown.
