The air in the office was thick with a palpable tension. The news of the sale had spread like wildfire. Michael, the lead engineer, walked the halls, his steps heavy. He felt a deep sorrow for everyone, and his stomach felt heavy.

He found his colleague, Susan, staring at her computer. She hadn't moved for hours. The bright computer screen lit up her features in the otherwise dark cubicle. Michael sat near Susan, and began by softly asking, "Are you alright?"

Susan turned, her eyes red-rimmed. "What is going to happen to us?" she asked. The helplessness in her voice was a physical weight. Michael placed a hand on hers. "We'll be okay," he said, hoping that his words would bring some of the solace that he felt.
