He’d typed a complaint about the noisy neighbors, intended for his partner. He’d sent it to the neighbors themselves. His cheeks burned. He imagined their reaction: anger, hurt. He knew he should have been more careful.

He’d seen them, a young family, struggling to make ends meet. He was a selfish jerk. He knew it. He pictured their tired faces. He imagined the way he must have made them feel.

He quickly sent a second text: "So sorry! That was meant for someone else." Then, he thought about the best thing to do. He decided to bake some cookies, and bring them over with an extra apology.
