The photo was a silly one of a friend, meant for their group chat. It went to the wrong number: his old high school teacher. He stared at the screen, a wave of nausea washing over him. He imagined the teacher’s disappointment, the feeling of… being let down.

He remembered how the teacher had always encouraged his creativity, how he had believed in him. He hadn't spoken to the man in years. His chest ached with the weight of unsaid thanks. He also knew he'd failed him in the past.

He decided against deleting the photo. Instead, he composed a simple message: "Just wanted to say thanks for everything." He knew it wouldn't fix everything. He hoped it would help.
