The elevator ride felt interminably long. Emily watched as Ben avoided eye contact, his gaze fixed on the rapidly changing floor numbers. The tension in the air was so thick you could cut it with a knife.

Emily knew how much this promotion meant to Ben. She remembered the nights he stayed late, the sacrifices he made for his family. She could almost feel his anxiety, his hopes and dreams hanging in the balance.

The elevator doors opened onto the executive floor, the sleek, modern design seeming to mock their nervous anticipation. Emily offered Ben a weak smile. "Good luck," she whispered, feeling a pang of genuine concern.
