“Oh, you bought the old lighthouse? That’s where the shipwreck occurred, you know,” the local fisherman had told him, a knowing look in his eyes. “The crew. The storm. A terrible tragedy.” He felt a pang of sadness as he stood in the lighthouse tower.

The waves crashed against the rocks below, a constant, mournful roar. He imagined the terrified screams, the desperate struggle for survival. He found himself walking around the exterior, examining it.

He sat for hours watching the sea. He felt an intense kinship with those who had perished. He understood the power of the ocean, the capricious nature of fate. He knew he had to do something; he started mending a small portion of the tower's walls.
