The small, yellowed notepad. Tucked inside a drawer filled with old sewing supplies. He read the list, his face softening. “See the ocean.” His grandfather, a farmer his whole life, had never seen the sea. The image of his grandfather, a man of earth and toil, gazing at the endless water, hit a nerve.

He could feel his grandfather’s quiet, reserved, contentment; the desire to have felt the sand on his toes, the sea air. He would make it happen. He’d drive to the coast, that very weekend, and he'd take his grandmother with him.
