It was a small, leather-bound journal, hidden amongst Elias's tools in his shed. "Build a boat" was the first item. My heart twisted. I knew how much he loved the sea, how he'd always talked about sailing. The next entry, "See the Grand Canyon," hit me harder. He'd been talking about that one since we first met. He’d always said, "One day, we'll go."

I didn’t know the first thing about boat building, but I knew I could learn. And I knew I could help with the canyon trip.

I spent the next few days researching boat-building tutorials. I made a tentative plan to start building in the spring. I also looked at flights to Arizona. That night, I found him in the kitchen, staring into space. I walked up to him, wrapped my arms around his waist and whispered, "Let's make plans, okay?"
