The list was in a tattered old address book, tucked away in the back of the closet. Mark’s name was on the cover, along with the date of their anniversary. The first entry: "Learn to surf." She knew how much he wanted to learn to surf. He’d grown up landlocked, but always felt a pull to the ocean.

"Go to a concert." The next item brought her up short. He never mentioned going to concerts, but it hit her with some force that Mark, in his life, had been mostly focused on her, and his family. His music interests were secondary.

She immediately started searching for surf schools near them and booked a lesson for the next weekend. That same evening, she browsed through concert listings, eventually finding a band they both knew he liked, but had never seen live. She secured tickets.
