Sarah tapped her foot impatiently, a smile playing on her lips. Her niece, Emily, had just shown her a drawing of a shimmering, winged cat. “That’s Sparklefluff!” Emily announced with a giggle. “He guards the candy stash.” Sarah, a sudden lightness in her limbs, could barely contain the urge to burst into spontaneous song. The memory, a vibrant flash, of Sparklefluff from her own childhood, the same ridiculous creature she imagined so long ago, flooded back.

She grabbed a cookie from the jar and devoured it in two bites. "Well, that sounds important." She wanted to rush through the house, searching for the old photo albums.
