The afternoon sun, reflecting off the pawn shop's window, seemed to amplify her excitement. She practically skipped over the threshold, her footsteps almost too light for the uneven floorboards. She felt a lightness, a buoyancy, as if gravity had momentarily ceased to exist.

She made her way to the jewelry counter, her voice bright and cheerful. She described the ring, its unique design, the sentimental value it held. She felt like she could leap over the counter, embrace the clerk.

And then, there it was. The ring, sparkling under the harsh fluorescent lights. She could hardly contain herself, a giggle escaping her lips.
