The salt spray kissed his face as the boat cut through the waves. The thrill of the open water, the promise of a big catch – it made him feel alive. He’d invited David, his oldest friend, for a day of deep-sea fishing.

David sat hunched in the boat, looking seasick. "Are you sure about this, Tom?" he asked, his voice strained.

Tom clapped him on the back. "Relax! You'll love it. We'll be hauling in marlin in no time!" He laughed, his voice ringing with optimism.

David grimaced. "Fishing? No. I thought we were going to the… the car show. Remember? You spent weeks polishing your old Mustang."

Tom felt a chill pass through him. The Mustang? He had no memory of planning a car show. "No. We’re fishing." He gripped the wheel, the easy feeling slowly curdling into something unknown.
