The new house was a puzzle, a vast, intriguing maze, and James was its eager explorer. He'd spent the day meticulously examining every nook and cranny, a restless energy driving him. He'd just finished testing the resistance of each wall in the study when a sound caught his attention. A faint click.

He found the source: a section of the bookshelf, slightly out of alignment. He fiddled with the mechanism, his mind racing. Then, with a satisfying *thunk*, a hidden panel sprung open. A set of metal stairs spiraled downwards.

His breath hitched. He had a sensation of buzzing, like a current running through him. This place was alive, waiting to be rediscovered.
