He paced, unable to sit still. Every corner of the house had to be investigated, every imperfection explored. He felt a need to understand the building's architecture, its history, its purpose. He found a strange irregularity in the kitchen pantry: a section of wall slightly deeper than the rest.

He pushed, and a door creaked open, revealing a small room. The smell of cedar filled his lungs. Inside, an old wooden chest sat gleaming, its metal clasps reflecting the light from his flashlight. He ran his hand over the smooth surface, a thrill running through his veins.
