Liam drummed his fingers on the table, a frantic tattoo against the worn wood. He’d barely slept last night, replaying Maya’s teasing laughter and the way she’d playfully swatted his arm. He practically jogged the entire way to their planned lunch date, his heart a frantic drumbeat in his chest.

Across the checkered tablecloth, a woman with fiery red hair and a matching temper sat, arms crossed. Her jaw was clenched. "He said the same thing to you? That his phone died?" The woman's voice crackled with fury, and Liam's own eagerness seemed to evaporate into the air.

Liam felt a cold sweat break out on his forehead. "He... he said he was really bad at tech." He stuttered, the words feeling alien on his tongue. He had been looking forward to this. Now it was all crumbling.
