He’d woken up with a song in his head, a tune that just wouldn't quit. Alex pushed back the covers, wanting to feel the earth beneath his feet. Then, the rhythmic scraping, the frantic barks - Buster's daily performance. He grinned. He knew exactly what to do.

He practically skipped to the back door, grabbed a handful of dog biscuits from the pantry, and jogged into the yard. He saw the golden flash disappearing under the fence, a blur of motion.

"Buster!" Alex called, his voice loud, but friendly. He moved towards the fence, shaking the bag of biscuits. He knew that the dog loved them. He felt a surge of… something… as he prepared to help his neighbor.
